Maybe today wasn’t the best day to wear a green suede shirt but today is definitely a Crunchie kind of day.
Growing up in the Philippines, merienda is a common thing so my childhood was filled with a lot of snack times. One of the things that stand out are the quintessential choco crinkles sold almost everywhere and are very easy to make. I decided to create a red velvet version after finding this recipe from Duncan Hines. Although I’m sure the box mix would’ve come out delicious as well, I always try to make everything from scratch so I tried putting my internet search skills to work again and stumbled upon this red velvet cookie recipe. I think I did an okay job but I must say that I definitely needed to cover the cookies in a thicker layer of powdered sugar. Lesson learned for next time!
Dinner was a delectable feast of Belgian and Canadian goodness… very juicy spicy frikandel with some apple cabbage slaw that led me craving some Banh Mi for tomorrow’s lunch. Also not pictured is the masterpiece that is the double cheddar frikandel but you can easily forget about it once you’ve tasted the savory poutine Saus has to offer.

I had the pleasure of dining at Hungry Mother last night thanks to Tasted Menu and of course a few lovely people who indulges in trying new restaurants with me (ahem* Ahmed, Daad, Anthony *ahem) Our table had veal sweetbreads, beef tongue, pimento cheese, and deviled eggs for starters. For the main entrées, we had scallops, chicken, sausage, a side of their famous skillet cornbread and an unbelievably tender wagyu steak. To drink, I highly suggest the no.70 and their sweet tea.
It was a fantastic night and made even more incredible when we were asked if we worked at Craigie. I wonder what gave them that idea? haha Anyway, the food was divine and the servers were nice. Would definitely return to this place again.

Spoiled by the Museum of Science a while ago through their annual Volunteer Service League dinner. Brought Anthony as my date and we were welcomed with champagne, chardonnay and hors d’oeuvres as we walked in to the Blue Wing where the dinner was being held. Met up with my favorite people to work with and then proceeded to our table where we were given even more wine and served tremendously exquisite cuisine…that Wolfgang Puck catering company sure know what they’re doing. Also, I know I’ve been bad at updating my tumblr but hopefully y’all are following me on Instagram (my username is thealoves) for updates!
Oh and this is what I had for lunch today… rated and reviewed on my Tasted Menu account. If you live in Boston or Austin, I highly suggest you join them because they know what’s good with the local dining scene plus you can write your own reviews! It’s like yelp but so much better! Now, go on and indulge your taste buds.
